Zoe decided to focus her artworks around the theme of war and the concept of how war has the power to profoundly impact those surrounded by the constant violence. Zoe explored the way war may rob soldiers of their emotions and humanity, sometimes reducing them to an almost robot-like state to hide their inner pain from the horrors of war. She hopes to convey those inner feelings of hopelessness and sorrow to show audiences that 'war is no joke'.

“Untitled”

This acrylic painting displays the concept of war and the effect it has on those involved. In my artwork “Untitled”, I aimed to illustrate the idea of how war can change people and their emotions. I wanted to show how a soldier or prisoner of war closed their emotions becoming void of life due to the constant trauma they have witnessed.

The use of acrylic paint, block ink and glass communicate my emotional aesthetic by illustrating a broken young boy caged by wire, surrounded by a violent atmosphere.

Acrylic paint, block printing ink, glass shards on wood - 600 mm x 897mm
