Darcie chose the theme of water and its power for her artworks this year. She explored how “Water has the power to nurture us or destroy us” and convey this to an audience just how often the ‘Depth of Water” is under estimated by Mankind.

DARCIE THOMAS

“Depth of water”

In this acrylic painting titled ‘Depth of Water’, my intention was to produce an artwork with the ability to compare the enormous power of water in contrast to us, human beings. The use of water is used to symbolise our dependence on this precious yet powerful commodity in our everyday lives for living, enjoyment and our livelihoods. The small dark silhouetted human figure is being encapsulated by the power of the water, being drawn down and overwhelmed. There is an induced fear of the water through its’ powerful waves in contrast to the flickers of hope and freedom represented by the impasto white bubbles rising up to the surface.

Stretched canvas, acrylic paints, impasto medium, marker

40.6cm x 50.8cm
