Indigo has chosen to explore the way love is conveyed both in classic literature and the art era of Romanticism as compared to how it may be portrayed in today’s modern literature.

INDIGO SHILLING

“The Secret Garden”

This portrait painting displays the comparison between traditional and modern love, with inspiration taken from literature. The painting communicates a young woman covered in flowers which symbolise love, staring into the eyes of the person she loves. The methods utilised in this painting refer to that of traditional oil paintings from the romantic era of art. The paint has been blended with the subject of the painting looking slightly flushed, utilising saturated colours to emphasise the bright colours of the pressed flowers surrounding the portrait and background. The boldness of the green utilised in the eyes shows passion in the artwork causing a sense of connection with the viewer, allowing the audience to relate to the woman in the painting.
