VCE VET APPLIED FASHION DESIGN YEAR 11
FOLIO BAG
The focus of this unit is to build the students understanding in following the design process, using a sewing machine and basic patternmaking skills
Sewing samples challenged students to sew in straight lines, curved lines, to pivot on corners and zig zagging
Students produced a folio bag which would store all their equipment for class
WORK SAFELY
The focus of this unit is to ensure students follow workplace policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for self and others
Students identified and assessed risks in the simulated workplace
A questionnaire was completed to indicated students knowledge of safe manual handling requirements
Students completed the General and Manufacturing Safe@Work Certificates
Students identified hazards and produced a Safety Poster
IDENTIFY DESIGN PROCESS FOR FASHION DESIGN (COLOUR)
Students identified fashion design brief requirements and how they impact on the process of producing fashion garments
Students studied the impact of colour on the design process in a production environment
BASIC BODICE GARMENT
This Unit involves students following the design process to gain a greater understanding of the Role of the Designer.
Students are introduced to the design process as the major tool in engaging in the creative process and to explore innovative approaches in fashion design and pattern production. Students create their own design brief to define the design requirements and researched examples for inspiration.
Students generate and develop a range of design option ideas and a storyboard
Unfortunately students were unable to produce their garment due to the Covid19 restrictions and lockdown.
NURSE SCRUB TOP AND CAP
Students consolidated their skills and knowledge of sewing expertise in the construction of the nurse scrub top and cap using sewing machines and overockers
Students’ learn how to operate, re-thread and make basic adjustments to sewing machinery. Students developed further skills in construction by completing a bias binding, v neck band, side splits and strengthening patch pocket corners
Students are donating the Nurse scrub tops and caps to Casey Hospital Emergency Department
WEARABLE ART GARMENT
Some students did not have a sewing machine during the Lockdown period and therefore were provided with relevant curriculum to create a wearable art garment
Students explored their home researching what items were available to use as one constraint was they were not allowed to buy anything.
Students produced creative design options and then made their wearable art garments
